Volcanus Erupts! is the first half of the eighth episode of season two of SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron, and the twenty-first episode overall. It is the second episode to be split into two stories.

Synopsis[]

The SWAT Kats are testing out the Turbokat's new heat shields on a flight when one of them starts to shake loose. Meanwhile, on nearby Anakata Island, Mayor Manx and Mr. Young are overseeing groundbreaking for a new industrial park and golf course. One of the natives warns Manx against damaging the Talisman Stone, an ancient totem that is meant to protect the island. Unfortunately, though Mr. Young convinces Manx to respect the artifact, Manx's attempts to halt the bulldozer heading towards the stone fail utterly and it is broken.

As the islander warned, the demon Volcanus emerges from the island's volcano, prompting the kats to flee as he begins rampaging. However, even the sea proves insufficient to halt Volcanus, who soon crosses to Megakat City and begins unleashing his fury upon the city. Chance and Jake, observing this on television, initially mistake the footage for a horror movie, but soon realize Volcanus is real. The pair arrive on scene just in time to save Commander Feral from the demon, though Feral ends up dropped into the ocean when Volcanus melts through their grapple cable.

Volcanus proves too much for Enforcers and SWAT Kats alike, and he soon makes his way towards Megakat Nuclear Power Plant. As the Enforcers desperately form a barricade against this, Razor spots a possible weakness on the giant creature. Donning a protective suit, he flies up to Volcanus while T-Bone provides a distraction and plants an explosive on Volcanus. Volcanus seizes him just after he's finished, but the explosive succeeds in blasting the demon to fragments, with Volcanus' fist holding Razor fortunately landing in the ocean so that Razor is unharmed.

Mayor Manx and Mr. Young eventually open a recreational park on Anakata, allowing the citizens of Megakat City to enjoy the island's beauty. Among the novelties offered are fragments of Volcanus himself, though Jake declines picking one up while he and Chance are visiting the island off-duty.
