The Ghost Pilot is the ninth episode of season one of SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron.
Synopsis[]
At the construction site for Megakat Marina, an old crane operator unexpectedly pulls an ancient, waterlogged fighter plane from the water. He and a coworker soon recognize the craft as a relic of Megawar II, and none other than the personal craft of the hated Rex Lynx. Meanwhile, two modern-day pilots, the SWAT Kats, are working out in their headquarters when the news story comes on, unfortunately distracting Chance from acting as Jake's weightlifting spotter. Chance is excited by the news, and particularly the thought that he'll be able to visit the Red Lynx's plane at the Megakat City Museum of History. He puts in a video with footage of the Red Lynx's legendary last dogfight, in which he was pitted against the heroic Blue Manx.
At the museum, Dr. Abby Sinian and a guard named Charlie briefly contemplate the Red Lynx's recently arrived plane. However, after Dr. Sinian leaves for the night, the light of the full moon unexpectedly causes a skeletal figure to appear in the plane's cockpit. As Charlie, alerted by a noise, watches in horror, the resurrected Rex Lynx takes the sky in search of revenge. He soon identifies a target: Mayor Manx, who happens to be the great-grandson of the Red Lynx's old foe the Blue Manx. The Red Lynx soon attacks Manx's office in Megakat City Hall, but only imperils a late working Callie Briggs as she's writing Mayor Manx's speech for the unveiling of his ancestor's namesake Blue Manx Jet.
After seeing the Red Lynx take down a trio of Enforcer Choppers, Callie calls on the SWAT Kats. Afterwards, she calls Manx-who is at the golf course-only for the Red Lynx to arrive to attack the mayor. As the mayor desperately flees, and then cowers, he is saved by the timely arrival of the Turbokat. However, the dreaded pilot's skills remain intact, and the SWAT Kats only manage to escape through cloud cover. Thoroughly terrified, Manx wants to cancel his appearance at the jet unveiling, but is eventually persuaded to attend when the SWAT Kats promise to help out.
Callie visits Dr. Sinian, who begins research into a means for dealing with the Red Lynx. She then joins Mayor Manx at the jet dedication, only for the SWAT Kats to apparently fail to show up. However, after the Red Lynx makes his expected attack, the SWAT Kats appear to confront him, but once again find him a difficult foe. Eventually, they manage to literally clip the cloth wings of the Red Lynx's old plane, sending him crashing into the bay.
The Red Lynx is not so easily destroyed, however, and soon obtains a new aircraft for himself: namely, the state-of-the-art Blue Manx Jet. Meanwhile, at city hall, Callie gets a call from Dr. Sinian about how to defeat the Red Lynx. Callie briefly believes this is unnecessary, until the Red Lynx arrives on the scene in his new plane. She then calls the SWAT Kats with news of the attack, and that Dr. Sinian has discovered a way to defeat the villain. Unfortunately, a relative of the Blue Manx must be the one to shoot the Red Lynx down one final time, and the only candidate is Mayor Manx himself.
As the Turbokat and Blue Manx face off in the skies, Callie hops into Manx's fleeing limo to inform him of their need for his help. She soon takes over driving, leading Manx to a gun emplacement on an aircraft carrier in the hopes that he can shoot down the Red Lynx. When a terrified Manx fails utterly, Razor deploys in the Cyclotron to collect him for another attempt. Manx finally finds the drive he needs to make the killing shot after Razor points out the danger to his upcoming campaign for reelection. With the Red Lynx shot down again-this time for good-Manx soon turns his attention back to politics.
