Metal Urgency is the tenth episode of season one of SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron.

Synopsis[]

Commander Feral leads the Enforcers in an attack on the Behemoth Tank, a massive Enforcer prototype that has been hijacked by Hard Drive. As Hard Drive plows through the Enforcers, the SWAT Kats arrive in the Turbokat. They soon find that the Behemoth's forcefield is a formidable barrier but manage to disable it using their Scrambler Missiles. Hard Drive thus loses control of the Behemoth, which crashes into a nearby building at Puma-Dyne Industries where the tank was developed. The news story ends up being seen by Professor Hackle and the Metallikats, whom Hackle has recently repaired.

Hackle informs the Metallikats that he plans to reprogram their criminal tendencies so that they can live productive existences as his domestic staff. This task is interrupted, however, when he sees a pair of gigantic robots on screen at the Puma-Dyne facility. As it turns out, Hackle himself designed these "Macro-Bots" for space exploration, only for Puma-Dyne to repurpose them for military use, which is what led him to resign from the company. Seeing that the machines have been built in spite of this, Hackle leaves to make a phone call. Unfortunately, this gives Mac and Molly the chance to break free of their restraints, destroy the disks intended to reprogram them and escape.

The Metallikats steal a broken-down truck, but soon set out for the Megakat City Salvage Yard in search of their old Metallikat Express. At the salvage yard, Jake and Chance's downtime is interrupted by an unwanted visit from Burke and Murray. Mac and Molly take advantage of the distraction to reclaim the Metallikat Express, only for Mac to discover a hatchway leading into a tunnel. Jake and Chance receive an alarm that their underground base has been breached and enter the lair to discover that the Metallikats have learned who they really are. A firefight soon erupts between SWAT Kats and Metallikats, but the clear advantage remains with the robotic criminals.

However, Jake and Chance manage to lure the Metallikats into a trap and crush them beneath the Turbokat's launch platform. Unbeknownst to the vigilantes, however, the Metallikats' heads-which are capable of moving on their own on spider-like legs-have escaped. Elsewhere, Callie Briggs pays a visit to Commander Feral regarding a newspaper headline declaring that he has ordered the SWAT Kats arrested. Though Callie speaks up on behalf of her friends, Feral is adamant about taking the SWAT Kats into custody after the destruction wrought by their most recent heroics.

The pair are interrupted by news of the Metallikats rampaging through town, their heads having boarded the Metallikat Express. Mac and Molly set their sights on Puma-Dyne, eager to claim Hackle's Macro-Bots as their new bodies. Callie alerts the SWAT Kats of this development, though too late for them to stop the Metallikats from plowing through an Enforcer barricade. As they race to stop the two criminals, T-Bone and Razor fear that their days as SWAT Kats may soon be over if the Metallikats reveal their identities.

Meanwhile, Hackle arrives at Puma-Dyne and delivers to Feral a Neural Neutralizer that can be used to disable the Metallikats. Unfortunately, Mac and Molly have already seized control of the Macro-Bots, which prove impervious to attacks from both the arriving Turbokat and the Enforcers. T-Bone and Chance have no choice but to keep up the fight, however, as the Metallikats threaten to expose their secret identities. They manage to drop the Macro-Bot Molly is piloting into a sinkhole, which gives Razor the chance to board it.

Fleeing her Macro-Bot, Molly joins Mac in his only for Razor to begin piloting the one Molly vacated against them. As the giant robots battle, T-Bone fires a missile that entangles the Metallikats' bot, but the machien breaks free from the restraints. Razor takes his Macro-Bot up a nearby skyscraper, and the Metallikats ascend a neighboring one to confront him. However, this plays into Razor's hands, as he sets his Macro-Bot on autopilot before ditching it as it leaps into the other one.

The two Macro-Bots hit the ground and are shattered, and Feral goes to investigate the wreckage. Finding Mac and Molly still functional, he draws the Neural Neutralizer and points it at them. The Metallikats attempt to make a deal with Feral, offering to tell him the identities of the SWAT Kats in exchange for leniency in their case. However, Feral-much to Callie's astonishment-refuses to bargain and blasts the two criminals, shutting them down for-hopefully-the last time.

Memorable Quotes[]

Hard Drive: Oooh! It handles nice. [Hard drive runs over two enforcer tanks, crushing them easily] Good suspension too, can't even feel the bumps!

--------------------

[Chance and Jake are taking cover behind a console as the Metallikats fire at them mercilessly]

Chance: Crud...they know who we really are!

Jake: Hey, it won't matter if we're really dead!

--------------------

[Mack and Molly are scanning the darkened lower level of the Swat Kats' hangar for Chance and Jake. Suddenly, Molly spots them lying on the ground, seemingly dead, and points them out to Mack]

Molly: See, what'd I tell ya Mack? They didn't get far.

Mack: [Evilly] Yeah! Call 'em mechanics or call 'em Swat Kats? I call 'em finished!
